Dr. Mickey Witte
Michelina (“Mickey”) Witte, Ph.D., M.S. is a lecturer in the Department of Kinesiology and Sport Sciences at the University of Miami where she teaches numerous nutrition science courses such as General and Advanced Nutrition for Health and Performance, Advanced Neurological Mechanisms of Obesity, Biological Bases for Physical Activity and Nutritional Biochemistry. Dr Witte authored the chapter on Essential Nutrition for Students’ Health and Well-Being for the latest edition of the textbook, “Physical Best: Physical Education for Lifelong Fitness and Health (SHAPE America),” published in January 2025 by Human Kinetics. She has been an invited guest on the Exam Room Podcast by the Physician’s Committee for Responsible Medicine where she has spoken about the neural mechanisms involved in obesity and the concept of food addiction. She is the faculty advisor for the UM student club, the Plant Based ‘Canes, and she enjoys teaching the most current evidence-based nutrition science research. She has received various grants and awards from organizations such as the Society for the Study of Ingestive Behavior and the National Institute for Neurological Disorders and Stroke. Dr. Witte has published several scientific journal articles and has presented at numerous scientific societies. Outside of academia, she is a competitive amateur triathlete and a passionate road safety advocate.
